What materials are needed to ascend a weapon?
Ascending a weapon in Genshin Impact requires two types of materials: domain materials (obtained from weapon domains on certain days of the week) and enemy materials (drops from common monsters). Domain materials exist in 4 tiers, while enemy materials come in 3.
Mora costs vary by weapon rarity: 5-star weapons are the most expensive, followed by 4-star and 3-star. In total, ascending a 5-star weapon from level 1 to 80 requires around 225,000 Mora.
When can you farm domain materials?
Each weapon domain is only available on certain days of the week. For example, Cecilia Garden is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, while Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula opens on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Sunday is the only day when all weapon domains are active.

Is it worth ascending every weapon to level 90?
For most weapons, reaching level 80 with phase 5 complete is sufficient — the stat bonus from the final stretch is usually marginal compared to the material and Mora cost. The exceptions are weapons that scale heavily with base level or with a high-rarity ascension stat.

Frequently asked questions about weapon ascension
How many domain materials do I need to max a 5-star weapon?
To take a 5-star weapon from level 1 to 80 you need 5 tier-1, 14 tier-2, 14 tier-3 and 6 tier-4 domain materials, plus enemy materials in 3 corresponding tiers. The calculator gives you the exact breakdown based on the levels you choose.
Can I craft domain materials from lower to higher tier?
Yes. At the crafting bench you can convert 3 materials of one tier into 1 of the next. This is very useful if you have farmed a lot on the days the domain was available and have a surplus of lower tiers.
Are enemy materials the same for weapons and characters?
Not exactly. Although the drops come from the same types of monsters, enemy materials for weapons are a different category from monster materials for characters. Each ascension recipe specifies which specific materials you need.
Do 3-star and 4-star weapons need the same materials as 5-star?
They use the same types of materials (domain and enemy materials from the same set), but in smaller quantities and with fewer ascension phases. Their Mora cost is also lower, making them much more accessible for new players.
